Basketball quickly becomes a getaway for Wes and his friends. What activities do you enjoy doing while trying to cope with difficult situations? Basketball is also my getaway as well. Basketball is My Perfect Getaway And What I am about to describe is how basketball takes me from the real world. Growing up I was always known as the hothead, but I would have never thought that I could have created an imaginary place where I would visit to get rid of negative thoughts and feelings. I’m sure that everyone has some sort of place, whether imaginary or real, where they will go to just get away, or they can feel at ease and relaxed from stress. For instance, playing basketball takes me to a place free from thinking about the world and everything it comes with, and it also calms me down.I started playing basketball as long as I can remember, My father influenced me alot but he didn't play himself, but what made me realize I like it even more is that I faced some hardships and I always overcame it with basketball. There was a time around 5th grade I went to a basketball camp, with some friends. It was my first one ever. I didn't know what was going to happen or how it would go or anything. Well for the whole week I played great, I was one of the best people there and even the coaches at the time were saying it, I ended up winning the 3pt contest, the FT contest so I definitely thought I was going to when the tournament.Being in this imaginary place sometimes feels like an out of body experience as if I am sometimes there. So here’s really what this basketball place is like for me. Firstly, as a child I was known by many to always be doing my own thing and wandering off into wonderland, and I created a place where I could always go too to escape. I have always enjoyed my days that I would’ve spent at the basketball courts, even to now being an adult, so in short, my imaginary place has and will always be Basketball. Basketball has been a big part of my life since I was ten years old. In basketball, there are several challenges to face just like in life, full of war. Basketball is not just a sport for me, but a way to get away from all my emotions and stress. The moment I play basketball I find myself at peace, have a big relief from all my stress, and take all my anger out on the court. I have been the boys basketball captain since my junior year of high school until my senior year. My senior night basketball was the most amazing, unforgettable night ever. I was in my locker room saying a quick prayer with my hands together before the big game. After four years of basketball, I waited for this day with such enthusiasm, anxiety and hard work. One of my teammates came into the locker room excitedly shouting to all the guys “ It 's time fellas! Tonight is our night to glow!” I was devoted too, but devoted to the game. I ran out of the locker room with a smile from ear to ear. As I went into the hall, there were people in the hall wishing the team good luck for tonight 's game. The gym doors were open, and it was like walking into heaven but with the music pounding out loud with the lights flashing yellow and green. The moment I walked into the gym, I looked up to the crowd with my heart pounding almost pouring out because of the number of people present. I saw that one spotlight that was on my moms in the front row seat with a poster made for me for motivation, waving at me. I felt my body get the chills and walked away with the biggest smile on my face. The game got more intense in the fourth quarter because the other team caught up and was two points behind us. Then, in the last 30 seconds, both teams ended up tied. Both coaches would always call a timeout and the game was more intense than ever. I was out on the court and as I waited for the ball to be dribbled. I looked up at the time as I felt every drip down my forehead. It was the last thirty seconds of our last game. The other team played a strong defense and so did we, but the other team was too frustrated and started to play sloppily where they 'd lose the ball and my team would take it. The moment the clock hit ten seconds with a tied score everyone was rushing. But my team and I kept playing our plays properly, so on a take out this was our last chance for a shot. We played a play called “40”. My teammates had to be prepared in the full court line up, so that when the ball was thrown, it looked like a skip ball till it reached me on the other side of the court to do a simple alley oop catch and dunk the ball to win the game at the buzzer and this is my getaway place.
